Added a reference to a different interpretation of the name Scugog. Not sure which one is correct, as book sources mention both. Blotto adrift 04:14, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My guess is it's from the Ojibwe word obashkiigaag describing a swampy narrows. There are at least two other lakes by the same name, each of which is accessible only via relatively narrow, swampy waterways. SKMonckton (talk) 16:16, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I live close to this lake, and it really catches my attention, becuase it is the only man-made lake that is part of the kawartha lakes. Winkelix 00:26, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Scugog is only partially man made. Unlike Mitchell Lake (Which is one of two fully artificial lakes in the Kawarthas, the other being Canal Lake), Lake Scugog existed more or less in its present form, though resembling the lake as it is on the south-west end, and was only a few feet more shallow than now. The dam that raised the lake 7 feet was destroyed in 1838, and the present dam keeps the lake at the height it had during the spring thaw, prior to human intervention. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ ^τ _¢ 17:55, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
